WE MUST VALUE OUR TEACHERS
Teachers are concerned that 12-month employees at Syphax receive over 30 days of paid holidays, an increase over prior years. Meanwhile, providing 10 days of paid parental leave was deemed too expensive in 2018 and rolled back.
Teachers also work beyond their contracted hours and see their planning and prep periods taken up with meeting and administrative requirements, such as seven pre-service days and professional development that barely 40% of teachers find relevant to their work.
The most recent Your Voice Matters survey showed alarming declines for questions like how proud teachers are to work at APS and whether they see themselves working at APS in two years.
To have the best APS for our students, we have to have the best teachers. To have the best teachers, we have to treat them like the best. Beyond compensation and benefits, We should make our teachers feel valued!
