RE-ELECT

Miranda Turner

Arlington School Board

High Standards for Students.
Real Accountability for Leadership.

I’m running for re-election to continue serving Arlington’s schools.

It’s been my privilege to represent you on the Arlington School Board since 2024.

I’m asking for your vote to continue pushing for what our APS students deserve: strong instruction, real oversight, and leadership that really listens.

My Priorities

Teaching, Learning, and Return to Rigor

APS has made real progress by investing in high-quality curricula, improving how it invites teacher input, and expanding accelerated academic options to more students. Now we need a sharper focus on what's actually moving the needle for all kids.

Limit Devices

We must continue to evaluate whether and how technology advances education and how it may be standing in the way of student progress. During my first term, I led APS in eliminating iPads in Pre-K and K and ending 1:1 for 1st and 2nd grades. I’ll keep fighting to right-size our use of educational technology.

Fiscal Stewardship and Accountability

APS manages more than $800 million in public funds each year, plus additional public dollars through capital improvement bonds. It's a serious responsibility that demands a focus on how we spend the money and whether it advances outcomes for our students.

“My responsibility is to advocate for what best serves students, not simply what best serves the institution.”

A Record of Results

A look at my first-term record on the Arlington School Board.

“I ask tough questions, and I follow up until I get real answers. I listen carefully and I dig into the data — our own numbers and the broader research — to find out what actually works. Then I bring people together to get it done. That approach delivered real results during my first term.”

Sharpened the board's focus on instructional quality. I called for smarter data collection and analysis, and I pushed for clearer evidence that our investments are actually improving outcomes. I also insisted teachers be consulted before top-down changes are made.

Balanced the budget every year without increasing class sizes.

Pushed to guarantee 180 days of instructional time as a firm floor, and fought to minimize interrupted weeks and cut down on days off.

Protected student-facing roles, cutting administrative positions first and securing a dedicated grant writer to bring in additional resources for our students.

Rolled back iPad use in elementary classrooms, eliminating devices entirely for PreK and Kindergarten.

Worked proactively in the face of unprecedented federal actions, anticipating issues, ensuring training and resources, and protecting student rights.

“That’s what accountability looks like, especially on the tough tradeoffs the School Board faces every day.”

Responsible stewardship

APS must continue to improve its planning, stakeholder engagement, and stewardship of $800+ million in public funds. Our school system needs dedicated and bold leadership that recognizes budgets reflect priorities.

It's sometimes easy for elected officials to start thinking like the institution instead of the community, defending the status quo instead of questioning it.

Representing the community

My Promise

I haven’t lost sight of who I work for: the community that elected me. My responsibility is to represent your interests and keep students and families at the center of every decision. With your support, I’ll keep doing exactly that.
